Tilson-Thomas' The Diary of Anne Frank

Discovered by her father in the aftermath of the Holocaust, Anne Frank’s diary is an affirmation of her unwavering belief in the essential goodness of mankind. American conductor and composer Michael Tilson-Thomas honors the inspirational legacy of this young heroine with his masterful The Diary of Anne Frank. A narrative piece, Tilson-Thomas frames quotes from Anne’s diary with music that speaks directly to the heart. Also on the concert, Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů’s tribute to the victims of the Lidice massacre during World War II. The concert concludes with the uplifting Symphony No. 4,“The Inextinguishable”, by 20th century Danish composer Carl Nielsen, a statement of the tenacity and strength of the human spirit.
